Travel to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for the 12th Annual Jackson Hole Scottish Festival. The gates open on Friday August 17th at 5:00pm for Ceilidh, a great party featuring Celtic music, pipers, pipe bands, fiddle players, dancing and much more. The pipe bands for the 2012 festival include the Galloway Highlanders, White Peaks Centennial, Caledonian Pipes and Drums, and the Eagle Rock Pipe Band. Also on Friday is the Bonnie Knee competition where men wearing kilts have their knees judged by older women. There is no real criteria for what a Bonnie Knee is, so anyone can be a winner and it makes for a very entertaining competition.
On August 18th gates open at 8:00AM so festival attendees can get an early start on the entertainment. On day 2, visitors can check out the many refreshment, Celtic vendors and Clan booths. Saturday is competition day where attendees can see the Heavy athletic Competitions including Hammer Throw, Weight Toss and more. There are also events for children to take part in. Musicians will compete in solo piping and drumming and there will also be a dance competition. At noon the massed pipe bands will play and the clans will march while solo competition awards are handed out. Closing ceremonies will bring the festivies to a close around 4:00pm.
